New Pan-Asian towns

If you’re keeping score, Latinos are growing in record numbers in most places in the U.S. except in 14 states —the key ones being Nevada, Arizona and Texas.

That’s where the Asian growth rates are growing even faster.

It’s just a more global version of what happens in the Bay Area. If you’re in Daly  City, no doubt you’ve had relatives move to such far flung places as say Antioch, Brentwood or Tracy.  If you’re in LA, you know about the exodus to the Inland Empire cities.

But it’s not far flung or cheap enough for some. It’s still in California, where prices are as high as redwoods are tall.

The answer?  Keep going inland to find far cheaper places to call home. Places like Las Vegas and Phoenix.

The Census documents the rise. And like all Asian migrants, economics seems to be behind the growth.

We’re moving to cheaper, maybe better.

But we’re also moving to places that don’t have a Chinatown or a Manilatown. We’re moving into places where Asians must resist their urge to segregate and instead band together to create some kind of presence, let alone political clout.

Maybe that’s the Pan-Asian dream of John Fang coming to fruition.
