Now we know how nasty Obama can be.
Geraldine Ferraro’s remarks about him were made during a speech outside the context of the campaign. In fact, while Ferraro is on the finance committee, she is not an official member of the day-to-day Clinton campaign operations.
During a paid public appearance Ferraro simply said that Obama is “lucky” that this election comes at a time when “the country is caught up in the concept” of a black president.
Is that racist?
I don’t sense racism. Is it a true statement? It’s Ferraro’s opinion, for goodness sakes.
Objecting to her statements and calling it racist is all about the Obama’s campaign playing PC cop. In a backdoor way, it’s playing the race card to try to separate those who like both Clinton and Obama. Nothing like divisive race politics to wedge people still on the fence.
This may also be a nasty riposte to the Obama campaign’s loss of Samantha Power. Power is a brilliant thirty-something, Harvard professor adviser. But she was quoted saying Hillary was a “monster” who would do anything to win.
Power was forced to resign and is a big loss to Obama.
So maybe his tacticians felt this was decent payback. Ferraro for Power and a player to be named later?
Ferraro’s remark is so overplayed. It shows how desperate the campaigns have become to create polarities that create separation.
I saw Michael Jordan do it in a championship game once. With the ball, No.23 pushed off the defender, then dribbled past him for a layup and score.
It was a foul. But no one called it.
Someone should blow the whistle on this foul on Ferraro.
This time a sports analogy really makes sense.
